Borders of Maritime Domain and Port Area

In the doctrines and legislations of some countries we find different points of view regarding the size of maritime domain. Some legislations only enumerate the subjects of the maritime domain and place them under a special legal regime.

Since the adoption of the Maritime Code until today, the determination of borders of the maritime domain has been a first-rate professional and political issue. The new Law on Maritime Domain and Seaports, besides exhaustively enumerating the subjects of maritime domain, also leaves a wide framework, which allows the expansion of maritime domain in the coastal area if part of it, by its nature and purpose, uses the sea.
