Ports Open to Public Transport

Ports open to public transport are seaports which are primarily in function of the public interest, and which, in their integrity, represent the bloodstream of Croatian Maritime transport and economic system.

The port open to public transport is legally defined as a seaport which can be, under equal conditions, used by any individual or legal entity, according to its purpose and within its available capacity.

For the purpose of management, construction and exploitation of ports open to public transport, Port Authorities are being established on a national and regional level.

Unlike the Port Authority, which manages the ports open to public transport as an extension of the State Government and, among other things, decides about public tenders and concession grants, the concessionaire at the special purpose port manages and economically exploits the port within the delegated authority defined by the concession grant and contract.
